Definitions

Phase 1:

Initial studies in human volunteers to establish the safe dose level of a drug.

Phase 2:

“Proof of Concept” clinical studies in relevant patient populations.

Renal Indication

Ischemic kidney injury occurs when renal perfusion pressure falls or stress hormones cause continued blood vessel constriction. Uncorrected, these lead to total kidney and chronic dialysis. Using chemical approaches based on the clinical success of CMX-2043, Ischemix has developed novel compounds which significantly reduce kidney damage in experimental models of acute renal ischemia. This efficacy, combined with a clean toxicity profile, can support an early clinical trial in acute kidney injury. These compounds may become important protective adjuncts to cardiac and general surgical procedures in kidney compromised patients.
