About Ischemix
Ischemix is a privately-held, clinical phase biotechnology company developing a portfolio of therapeutic compounds to reduce cell and organ damage associated with ischemia-reperfusion injury. The first of these compounds, CMX-2043, is targeted to reduce cell death and organ damage due to initial interruption and subsequent resumption of blood flow associated with cardiac surgeries and interventional procedures such as percutaneous coronary intervention (“PCI” or “angioplasty”), coronary artery bypass grafting (“CABG”), and myocardial infarction (“MI” or heart attack).
The Company was founded in 1999 based on research conducted at laboratories associated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Ischemix remains highly focused, with emphasis on demonstrating clinical efficacy of therapeutic compounds proven in animal models of ischemia-reperfusion injury.
Ischemix completed a 40 subject, Phase 1, safety study in 2007 under an Investigational New Drug (IND) filing with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with its lead compound, CMX-2043. In early 2011, Ischemix successfully completed a multi-center Phase 2a clinical trial with CMX-2043 for the prevention of peri-operative ischemia-reperfusion injury in patients undergoing elective PCI procedures.
